Did you know that Search and More have started offering work experience placements in Stockport? For any young individual who wants to pursue a career with a digital marketing company, we believe that work experience opportunities are vital. Last week, we welcomed Chloe to the team to show her what life is like working for a small digital marketing company.
Work Experience at a Digital Marketing Company
My name is Chloe and I’m currently in Sixth Form studying Media Studies, English Language, and Business Studies. My career aspiration is to eventually become a film director. I believe that gaining experience in digital media will benefit me in any future jobs or career paths.
Why I chose to do Work Experience with a digital marketing company
I had a friend offer me their help by giving me a list of small digital media companies which were local to where I live. Search and More immediately caught my eye so I clicked onto their website. Once I read about the company and saw some images of the office, I knew I had to apply for a work experience placement.
What I got up to this week during my week of work experience
During the week, I did so many tasks which were very new to me, but equally as enjoyable. I began by putting together blog content research for the company’s clients, as well as analysing their social media profiles. I also performed a range of competitor analysis, which was interesting as I learned about many small businesses that I’d never heard of before. One of my favourite tasks was designing Pinterest graphics, using images, small bits of text and using different placements and positions that would appeal more to the target market.
Particular skills I learnt during my week at Search and More
During this week, I learnt a lot about researching competitors and their websites/social media. I also learnt about ‘keyword research’ and how to make certain articles appear higher up in a search engine, gaining more traffic. Another thing I learned was how to write catchy headlines. Ensuring that a headline made people want to read the article. To practice this, my mentor, Lacey, set me up a spreadsheet with existing headlines. I went through with the tips I had learned, adapting them to make them more eye-catching.
